AE Component of the month – September

September came and went in a flash, and it’s autumn again… my favourite season of the year! For the challenge this month we were treated to gorgeous little ZomBees from Laney Mead… they’re so cute!! Of course I forgot to take a photo of mine before I started! (Apologies for that and also the bad pics in this post, the weather has been very seasonal!!!)

Laney makes wonderful whimsical beads, they’re full of character so I decided I wanted to make something fun… I only tend to do serious jewellery so this was the perfect opportunity to make something a little different. I went with the halloween theme creating a spiderweb necklace in bronze chain.

I wired him in to the centre of a bronze cast ring and set the ring in the centre of a spiders web made of chain and jump rings.

And no web would be complete without a spider… he’s in for a surprise though, the little bee is ready to eat his brains!!!

He was made from a Czech glass bead and wire wrapped with copper and seed beads to make his legs. I made a terrible attempt at giving him eyes with a sharpie pen. Looking back it would have been better to paint him on some eyes with acrylics or china paints so he matched the bee!

I think it turned out quite fun and would be a great accessory for a halloween costume! Big thanks to Laney for a fantastic component and giving me the chance to try something different… I really enjoyed working with my ZomBee!

If you’d like to see more of Laney’s brilliant work, you can find her blog here with links to her shop and Facebook page 🙂 http://laneymead.co.uk

  1. I think this COM is the one where I had to smile and laugh the most! Gosh, this is such a cool idea and so adorable! Love it 🙂

  2. This makes me giggle! If I had gone this direction I would have to build my entire Halloween costume around it so that I could be the zombee keeper!
