AJE Component of the Month – May

This month’s challenge components were provided by the multi talented Sue Kennedy of SueBeads. As well as making gorgeous enamelled pieces and lamp work beads, she creates these cute little beaded beads.

I am full of admiration for anyone who can create anything with these fiddly little things, especially when they are as lovely as these colourful little gems!

I’ve been a bit short on time this week as I’ve been preparing for the Stourbridge Bead Fair, in fact I’m there as you’re reading this. But I did manage to squeeze in a bit of time to join in the challenge.

I decided to keep it simple and make some earrings. Orange isn’t a colour I usually work with, but I love the earthy tones of this pair. Two little cut Czech glass beads echo the orange, and matt hematite spacers provide a neutral colour for the dangles. I also managed to use the cute little charms I received from Melissa (Melismatic) for the COM a couple of months ago. Unfortunately they were delivered the day after it was all over and I didn’t get chance to join in.

And having a second pair of beads in my stash, I thought I’d make another pair.

These are made with glass headpins, (also made by Sue) my own lamp work spacers, and a couple of large seed beads.

You might have spotted that there are no ear wires on either pair. I just didn’t have time to make any, that’s a job for next week, and they just didn’t look right on the cheap ready made ones I had in my bead  box, they deserve something much fancier!

A big thank you to Sue for her wonderful components, (and Melissa for hers!) the final designs with them are quite simple, but they really pushed me to try out some different colours and I had a nice break from show prep!

  1. I love how earthy the first pair are and how well they go with Melissa’s charms, I too struggle with orange but think you have done a marvellous job and the shape is really fab! And that second pair are really lovely the head pins make them really zinging. if that makes sense!

  2. Love, love, love them both. Those head pins from Sue are spectacular. Hope your show was a great one!

  3. So fun Caroline! I especially love the turquoise pair – they remind me of the circus without being that typical primary color combo.

  4. I love both pairs of earrings you made and how you put together the headpins with that pair as well! Even when you had a show! Hope it’s going well!

  5. Awesome sets! I love the first one with the glass head pins. Will have to check out Sue site to check on those. I have been wanting some but wasn’t sure where to look to find them. Now I know. Excellent job and thanks for posting!

  6. I absolutely LOVE the color of the second pair. Definitely a pair to wear to a beach party. The first pair has me ready for Fall. Love them both.

  7. Those earrings make me like orange. And Melissa’s “little tiny shines” are always a treat. Gorgeous – both pair! Sometimes you have to bead – its the RX for stress and burn out. Hope the Fair was a good weekend, in all ways.

  8. Yay, I’m so glad you got your package finally! I had been meaning to ask if it ever showed up! I love both these pair! Lovely combinations!
