Component of the Month Reveal – January

It’s the end of the month, which means it’s reveal day for our Art Elements Component of the month challenge. This month the Team & guests were given one of these beautiful Leather cabochons by Lindsay Starr to work with.

I received this gorgeous dark green one!

I decided I wanted to set it somehow and use a druzy cab that I’ve been hoarding. At first I was going to claw set the leather cab, but I couldn’t decide how to use the druzy, so after playing around a bit, I came up with this

I cut copper to fit the back of the cab and soldered a strip to hold the leather in place with a bezel for the druzy. The bottom of the cab is held with a tab.

Hematite beads and a coated quartz point added a bit of colour with the bronze wire, and copper chain finished of the necklace.

Big thanks to Lindsay for a brilliant component. I’ve had great fun working with mine!

  1. Awesome Caroline! I don’t have enough words! I am so inspired by your use of metal with the organic nature of the cab, its such an interesting juxtaposition of materials. It’s just magical.

  2. I just LOVE it, simple as that! Your work is always so amazing, The metal over the cab with the druzy, ingenious! The mixed elements go so beautifully together and it has all my favourite colours, a real treasure and I bet it looks amazing on!
